The other day I was listening to my ipod when 2 Superman songs came on back to back. I started wondering how many Superman songs were out there. A quick search of itunes revealed quite a few, some good and some blah. Here are the top 10 Superman songs of all time. (in no particular order)  You can click on any picture to purchase the song from itunes.

Resignation Superman – Big Head Todd and the Monsters
The Superman with no greater purpose in life. “A resignation Superman, and today the bad guys win, cause he turned his cape in. Now he says, and I’ll turn my back on this world”

Jimmy Olsen Blue’s – Spin Doctors
A love triangle with Superman, Lois and Jimmy Olsen. “He’s faster than a bullet, stronger than a train. Come on downtown and stay with me tonight, I got a pocket full of kryptonite.”

Superman (It’s not easy) – Five for Fighting
The introspective Superman song with great use of a classic Superman line. “I can’t stand to fly” “I’m more than a bird, I’m more than a plane, I’m more than a pretty face beside a train. It’s not easy being me.”

Kryptonite – 3 Doors Down
The unique version of Superman who keeps his superhuman Kryptonite at his side? “If I go crazy then will you still call me Superman. I’ll keep you by my side with my superhuman, my Kryptonite”  Superhuman refers to a person and Kryptonite is an object?  Strange

Save Me – Remy Zero
The Smallville soundtrack that signals a rush for the couch. “Somebody Saaaaaaaaaaaaaave me. I don’t care how you do it.”

You Don’t Mess Around with Jim – Jim Croce
Jim Croce compares Superman and “big Jim Walker from 42nd street”.  “You don’t tug on Superman’s Cape, you don’t spit into the wind, …”

Superman – Lazlo Bane
Quirky Scrubs Theme Song – “But I can’t do this all on my own. I’m no, I’m no Superman”

Superman – Super Heroes Invasion
50’s era Superman television show intro – “Mild mannered reporter for a major metropolitan newspaper fights a never ending battle for Truth, Justice and the American way”

Superman (the movie) – John Williams
Beautiful, big bold classic instrumental for the Superman movies.  This is just one of many great movie theme songs he composed.

Sunshine Superman – Donovan
1960’s era love song that shows the depth of his love. “Superman or Green Lantern ain’t got nothing on me. I can make like a turtle and dive for your pearls in the sea, yeah!”  Nothing says love like pearl diving in the sea.
